
Amiya Chakrabarty was an Indian Film Director, Screenwriter and Producer, who was leading Film director in hindi cinema of the 1940s and 1950s.
Amiya Chakrabarty joined Bombay Talkies. His talent for screenwriting shown in film, “Punarmilan” (1940), “Bandhan”. In 1941 Amiya Chakrabarty lead pair of Ashok Kumar and and Devika Rani in Anjan.
Amiya Chakrabarty had spotted the hero for his next venture without even a screen test, and so Yusuf Khan, rechristened as Dilip Kumar came to the Indian Screen. The film he debuted in was the musical romance “Jwar Bhata”. Throughout his career, Dilip Kumar remembered Amiya Chakrabarty for he gave his first break.

When Chakrabarty forms his Production Company “Mars & Movies one of the most successful film made under the banner was the Dilip Kumar and Nimmi starrer “Daag” (1952). Daag focused on the problems of alcoholism exacerbated by poverty. Living a poor lifestyle with his widowed mother, Shankar (Dilip Kumar) sells toys for a living, but is addicted to alcohol. Dilip Kumar won the first Filmfare Award in for best actor category.

Patita (1953) follows the fare of a rape survival. The film is especially well-known for some very melodies and popular songs.
“Seema” (1955) examines the travails of a juvenile delinquent. An orfan gets in trouble with the law and is sent a home for young woman. There for the first time, she finds friendship, compassion and possibly love. Amiya Chakrabarty won the 4th Filmfare Award for Best Story for this film. Nutan won her first Filmfare Award for Best Actress.
