The songs “O door ke musafir ham ko bhi saath le le re”,”More Saiyan Ji Utrenge Paar”,”Ghar Aaya Mehman Koi”,”Mera Salam Le Ja” are popular songs from this film.
Kashi (Dilip Kumar) travels by an ill-fated plane, which crashes on the outskirts of an isolated city that is ruled by women, who worship Shanga, their God. Kashi is rescued by pretty Soni (Nimmi), daughter of religious Peshwa of the land and taken to her home. She lives with her widowed father, and brother, Hira. Sony was young, beautiful. Kashi was facinated beyond words. Their eyes mey and strange messages were exchanged between them. Their hearbeats set up a breathless rhythm. Both hearts broke out in to an entrancing melody of undying love. Step by step, through faith and sacrifice, the constant Soni was nearing the heart of Kashi.
A high noble of land, Shangu abided, outsiders were not permitted to stay long in this island. Kashi had no way of departing, for his plane was destroyed in flames. To obtain permission for a prolonged stay, he was directed by the Peshwa to seek an audience with the Queen (Surya Kumari).
The queen’s sole delight was in sporting in human heads. He meets with her and she finds him attractive and charming, and invites him to stay with her at her palace and sing for him, which he does. A queen who falls in love with Kashi. Kashi and Soni have given their hearts to each other, they meet secretly, with Soni disguised as a man, Shibu. Nimmi spends half the film dressed up as spry youth, Shibu.
Queen promptly began a dangerous game of the hearts. This was indeed the gateway for the sucess of Shanu who love with Soni. It opened, countless savage intention lifted up their dragon-heads for breathing fire.
Naushad recorded an entire song without the use of an orchestra having replaced the sound of musical instruments with the sound of humming. He created outstanding melodies in raga Pilu, a light classical raga or thumri that is quite varied and like Bhairvi uses all notes in rhythmic sequence. Representing verve and devotion it is very suitable for conveying feelings of attraction. Moray Sayyanji Utrenge composed, is full of such a joyful anticipatory emotion. Another song “Chale aaj tum jahan se huyi zindagi parayi. Tumhe mil gaya thikana humein maut bhi na aayi. O door ke musafir humko bhi saath lele re. Humko bhi saath lele hum reh gaye akele. ” (Today my life has become a stranger as you’ve left. You found your place and I didn’t even attain death. The one who’s travelling a distance, take me with you. Take me with you as I’m alone.)
In Uran Khatola, Surya Kumari played the queen of a secret kingdom dominated by women. Her performance “beautiful” and “convincing”.
Film was stormy passion, sacrifice and pulsating hearts.
