

Johny Mera Naam (Johny is my name) is a 1970 Indian Hindi language crime action film directed by Vijay Anand. The film stars, Dev Anand and Pran in the roles of brothers separated in childhood.
The story revolves around Mohan and Sohan who are the sons of a police inspector. The kids excel in boxing. Their father is killed by a goon following orders from a smuggler Ranjit (Premnath) for refusing his bribes. Mohan (Pran) kills the goon and takes refuge in a car boot that belongs to Ranjit, and goes missing. He ends up working for Ranjit under name Moti.
Years later Sohan (Dev Anand) goes on to become a CID officer who solves his cases taking up different guises. He takes the identity of Johny gets himself in Jail, befriends Heera (Jeevan). Heera offers him money to complete a job and smuggle diamonds to Rekha whose working for Moti and has join the crime world to meet her father Bhupinder Singh. Johnny is indeed Sohan a secret cop on mission to catch Bhupinder Singh and his gang he gains trust of Rekha and Moti and joins their gang. Moti has developed trust of Johnny and makes him part of his every mission unaware that he could leak secret information of his gang to Bombay police who have currently made their base in Katmandu to arrest the gang. Moti happy with work of Johnny decides to introduce him to Bhupinder Singh. On other hand Rekha who has fallen in love Johnny wants him take her to his father. But when Johnny leaks the secret information to his senior officer Mehra he finds a shocking truth.
Rekha finds her father who was imprisoned in Ranjit place and with Sohan’s help rescues him from Ranjit who is handed over to the police. Heera informs Mohan about Johny’s real identity, leading to a confrontation between Mohan and Sohan. In the midst of this conflict, they both come to the realization that they are long-lost brothers. In the end, they are reunited with their mother, and the stolen jewels from the Radha Krishna temple are also returned.
In “Johny Mera Naam”, he takes the bull by its horns as a cop. The year 1970 was the beginning of a decade that was to give Indian cinema an amazing thrust. The films came in a wide range to suit the interests of all sections. Dev Anand’s versatility lay in his desire to experiment. He was an eternal romantic. He was audacious in picking his themes, always staying in touch with the times. His boundless energy made him a favourite of his leading ladies and, of course, the youth looked at him as the guiding force. His disarming smile an infectious influence and films a medium of great entertainment. Romance remained paramount but crime thrillers and offbeat subjects dominated the world of Hindi cinema. It was hardly surprising that Dev Anand chose to take the lead with “Johny Mera Naam”, a huge hit with catchy scores from Kalyanji-Anandji and one of the raunchiest numbers ever with bold lyrics and a bolder dance by Padma Khanna.
At the 18th Filmfare Awards, Vijay Anand won the Filmfare Best Screenplay Award, while actor I.S. Johar received his first Best Performance in a Comic Role for his triple roles: a steward in an aeroplane, an associate of criminals and a police officer.
